Hotel Report October 2020
Performance Analysis: October 2020 in Some Major Destinations in Germany
Our task is to identify and quantify emerging developments and to determine their causes so that opportunities and risks can be identified and options for action can be derived.
However, how accurate can a trend barometer be if the general conditions change massively in the time between query and analysis?
Our survey is conducted monthly on the 26th of August. At that point, the second wave of infection has arrived, but there was no ban on accommodation for German tourists from high-risk areas. Currently, the RKI already listed more than 30 cities and rural districts as areas with more than 50 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days (data status: October 11, 2020).
The domestic tourist took a break in September and was therefore unable to compensate for the lack of demand by cancelling trade fairs or transferring them to digital. Across Germany, September closed with an occupancy rate of 45.3%, an average room rate of € 88.00, and a RevPar of € 40.00.
