Hotel Report March 2021
Performance Analysis: February 2021 in some major destinations in Germany
Once again, events are coming at a rapid pace.
Expectations were high for the federal-state meeting on March 3 with Angela Merkel and the minister presidents. The result was the extension of the lockdown in principle and agreement on an opening procedure.
Nowadays, there is a great deal of frustration about the fact that German residents can travel by plane to Mallorca for their Easter vacations, but cannot go to hotels on the North Sea or Baltic Sea, in the Harz mountains or Bavaria, etc. On the other hand, virologists and doctors warn that the number of infections with Covid-19 is doubling every week because the mutant B 1.1.7 virus is much more contagious and therefore spreads more quickly.
However, there is positive news from Messe Berlin. The new head of the trade show, Martin Ecking, considers ITB NOW 2021 a success. His conclusion: 3,500 exhibitors from 120 countries and 65,700 users were on the online platform. His outlook: Next year there will be an analog ITB with digital additions. A positive sign for the Berlin hotel industry.
Yet Spain is in a different position in this respect. Fitur 2021 in Madrid is already planned this year as a combined event. Of course, with PCR testing on the departure of the participants, quick testing on-site, guided visitors, minimum distance, etc. The mobile trade fair in Barcelona is also scheduled to take place analogously at the end of June 2021. We remember, last year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) was canceled on February 15, 2021 – just 12 days before the official start date.
February brought slightly higher values than in the previous month of January. Nationwide and across all hotel categories, the occupancy rate reached 10.5%, the average room rate (ADR) is on the books at an average of € 67.40, and the RevPar is € 7.10.
