Hotel Report June 2020
Performance Analysis: May 2020 in Some Major Destinations in Germany
After many weeks of lock-down, room rentals for tourist purposes are now permitted again in all federal states as of June. The restart is quite challenging since each federal state has its own commandments, prohibitions and rules.
With the Hotel Report, we cannot just continue where we have paused due to Corona without any comments. After all, the growth rates mentioned here in our Hotel Report are determined by comparing the performance figures for May 2020 versus May 2019. This raises the obvious question of whether this is possible at all. Hasn’t COVID-19 really turned everything upside down that otherwise affects occupancy, room rates and RevPar? Instead of business trips only ZOOM conferences are used – not a single trade fair, not a concert, football only in front of empty stands, hardly any aviation, no entry for foreigners, distance regulations, capacity limits… How can it be taken into account that the easing of regulations was only decided in the middle of the month? The same applies to the Trend Barometer, which is established as a helpful tool for obtaining estimates and information on future market developments over the next three months.
But despite possible concerns and the difficulty of being able to make definite statements, we have decided not to wait any longer. We were supported by our hotel partners, who described their individual views of the region to us.
We believe that any additional information about the hotel market and its development will be helpful for you, our readers. This supports you in your valid assessment of the current hotel market and to make good decisions.

In Germany, the occupancy rate closed at 13.5% in May 2020.The average room rate reached € 84.40 and the Revpar accounted for € 11.40.
We wish you a successful June, all the best and stay healthy!
